This painting is part of the "Visions from the future" project. In the natural world, life has a tendency towards expansion, in order to have more and better opportunities for success so as to avoid extinction. This is true for plants, animals and, all the more so, for human beings. We know that the great Homo Sapiens migration towards Europe and Asia started 500 centuries ago in Africa, where our species had spread and established itself. We now know that, among the 10-12 different Homo Sapiens species that have developed in the last 2.5 million years, only the Homo Sapiens, which has been present for 300,000 years, has defied extinction, by reaching and colonizing all the dry land of the planet and creating the conditions for further unrelenting development. The invention of the computer, with its constantly increasing processing power, has then made it possible to imagine new foreseeable scenarios for further exponential development of civilisation. Once the artificial intelligence has become as powerful as human intelligence, it will trigger an exponential spiral towards a ‘super-intelligence’, therefore making mankind obsolete and bound for extinction. At this stage human beings might be replaced by a new immortal species. The migrants of the future will be driven to other worlds and dimensions. Their enhanced intelligence will further stimulate their hunger for knowledge of the universe and its laws. They will become the new migrants as the spark of life keeps feeding the purpose of evolution.
