Chimerical Arcana born from my passion to the tarot deck and its rich symbolic system that talks with so many western symbols. I wish I could create something from it and play with the idea of divination of the cards. So I put myself under the control of the cards, I would drew three cards, from each type of it, and it would be the instructions for one photo. I let the cards guide my creativity.
The first of the three cards to be drew to create the logic of a photo would be a Major Arcana. This gave me a theme based in the straight iconography or meaning of the card. The second is the Court Card of the Minor Arcana. Each suit of these cards is linked with a nature element and that would give me a challenge to be accomplished on the photo. Swords would dare me to make something floats or Batons I would need to play with light. The last card to be drawn it’s the Minor Arcana Numbers. Each of these cards was linked to an object I set randomly in a spreadsheet and that object should be insert on the photo.
During the process of making these images,I created my own Arcana a deck of cards that conveys my human existential issues, that reflects some powerless approach to the natural phenomena or the search for a answer in something beyond the science. So now i have a deck of 18 new cards that can be used as a new deck for divination. The first exposition of it I made a performance that I used my own tarot to read people’s future in the opening for 3 hours.
The project consists in 18 cards, 16x9cm each; 01 drawing of the model of drawing 3 cards, 29x42cm; 01 list of the Major arcana, 29x42cm; 01 spreadsheet of the suits and challenges, 29x42cm; and 01 spreadsheet of the objects and its Minor Arcana, 29x42cm. This must the set the drawing above, the second line the list and spreadsheets, then below that 2 lines of 9 cards each.
