After/Life looks to explore the ideology of life being a
preamble to an eternal existence in the hereafter. As Christopher Hitchens
states "I try to deny myself any illusions or delusions, and I think that
this perhaps entitles me to try and deny the same to others, at least as long
as they refuse to keep their fantasies to themselves". In this work, the
action of proposed ascension is challenged by the visual beauty of form and
function, unfettered by religious symbolism. The beauty of the bird lies in
millions of years of evolution and not in the hands of a divine maker. “We can
judge our progress by the courage of our questions and the depth of our
answers, our willingness to embrace what is true rather than what feels good.”
- Carl Sagan
