This hand tufted rug was the result of a collaborative project where I recreated the painting of an artist I shared a studio with which had been painted over. We often spoke about the tendency to 'overpaint' work and lose the best stage in a paintings life, so I created this piece to create the ghost of a lost work. I often contemplate the idea of living in one's own shadow, and the idea of lost potential and this was a way of conceptually solidifying and reclaiming the past life of an object, and engaging with the difficulties in identity between past and present selves.
