The endless cycle of generation and regeneration in conjunction
with demise holds the metamorphosis, the only constant element in the circle of
life or "sansara", the very core of our existence, which roots to our
Hindu mythologies and the quest of finding the untrodden paths of a new
dimension of freedom in the form of "MOKSH" or eternal salvation.
My design inspired by this concept, explains the infinite
journey through the phase of change from complexity-repression-misery towards
stability and enlightenment. The nature semblance is depicted through flowers
and butterflies while veins and cells represent the human body as the base of
the artwork creating a biomimicry of a human body. Flowers cradled with love
when they are in there bud stage, desired in their youth for their fragrance
and beauty, and eventually discarded when they lose their vigor and look to
please. Butterflies have an admirable life cycle beginning from a small larvae
to a beautiful free spirited insect. This composition emphasizes the journey of
life and dead-diseased-decayed flowers and nascent larvae to budding fresh
blooms and fully fledged butterflies enhanced with the movement of color red
(representing life with its vitality and passion) from its shades to tints,
where each shade represents a stage of life and where life is divided into
seven stages (William Shakespeare 'AS YOU LIKE IT') And with motifs combined
depicting an anticipated future in which man is in harmony with nature, the
ultimate truth being we are all made from dust and to dust we shall return.
Keeping nature as my mentor and having experienced its power of
healing , I have handcrafted the garment with sustainable materials like wooden
beads and processing left over fish scales, piecing them together with a
traditional Indian embroidery technique of 'Aari Work' known for its fine and
delicate threadwork.
To encapsulate the piece ,"Moksha" represents
liberation from laden cyclic process of all life matter and existence. The
entire experience of constituting the piece by getting an abyssal understanding
of the concept has been very eventful, enthralling and full of emotions for me
where there have been moments of darkness silence and moments of exuberance and
light driving me toward the ultimate goal
