In my country, a red ribbon is placed on the white wedding
dress of the girls getting married. This red ribbon is a tradition that has
unfortunately been carried to this day as a shameful symbol of their virginity.
As an artist inspired by my own culture, I designed an
earring to represent this theme in order to disrupt the establishment of this
tradition born of ignorance and to counter the existence of this cult.
This is a hoop earring. The ring part characterizes the
belt, and there is red glass processed in the form of a filigree through the
ribbon-curved glass pieces at the bottom of the earring. It is a reference to
defloration, which is very important in my country.
This theme is not just an element of earring design. It is
an element of work aimed at pushing the existing perspective on women in my
country to change.
