This piece is an ode to Matisse's color palette. I wanted to work on an embroidery stitch that is common, accessible and recognizable in an obsessive manner. I like to accumulate texture, stitches, thread, hours and actions on a piece. I like for the process to be present in the piece and I believe embroidery on paper has this particular quality of texture contrast that brings the spectator to the process and to a need to touch. I like waking fingertips up, whispering to other hands and calling them to the adventurous touch.
This piece also builds on my exploration around embroidery samplers, "dechados". I am still researching the formalities that embroidery on paper presents, especially thinking that paper is a canonical surface in History of Art.
