My lighting series “Lightbodies” is a formal investigation into the
viscous behaviour of hand-blown glass.
Lightbody02 started as an experiment in which I
questioned widely accepted lighting design typologies.
A typical pendant lamp
is decomposed into its singular parts. During the process of glass blowing, its individual parts deform the viscous glass bulb,
something which is caused by an interplay of pressure and tension. The final output of the "Lightbodies" series needs to be
understood as a unique snapshot of interacting forces during this handcraft process.
The function serves as
an additional layer, representing the geometrical and programmatic boundaries of the hand-blown glass object.
