As an architect, artist and designer I am looking for housing forms in all dimensions. In this piece the tension between the cubistic language of the basic form - just a hemisphere cutting a cuboid – and the amount of organic detail in close-up is creating a touching vessel for one human being. Nuzzled in to this cozy shelter the outer and inner world can be observed through the holey wooden network.
The shell of the Kuglschrugl consists of 79 unique pieces of plywood. The partition pattern was computer generated and virtually unfolded. The resulting single pieces were subsequently produced on a 3-axis CNC mill, turning the pieces by hand during the process. After producing, the pieces were assembled by hand. The resulting hemisphere was sanded and polished with a selfmade wood wax. The socket is milled out of MDF. The socket as well as the built to dimension seat cushion are upholstered with fur.
