This new collection offers a play on contrasts.
It’s an encounter between artificial intelligence and clay.
The random shapes crafted by the artist’s hands host characters created by powerful software that generates images based on language.
Word combinations open up infinite possibilities. Fanny Bouyagui navigates through them to envision hybrid characters that are sometimes unsettling.
The dialogue between the artist and the power of computing creates a series of contemporary divinities inspired by ancient gods and goddesses, their gaze distant within deformed and contorted bodies.
From this dialogue, faces also emerge. These pieces resemble 17th-century ceramics.
An augmented version is born, as a logical extension to this. Characters come to life in video form on their digitalized porcelain background.
They speak, telling us a whispered tale…An ethereal, intimate pause that we can take part in using a QR code.
RAW OR FINE MATERIALS. STONEWARE OR PORCELAIN.
FLAT PANELS AND PLEATS, CHIFFONS.
DESIRED FLAWS, IMPRECISE CONTOURS.
IMPERFECTION TO COUNTER PERFECTION.
Each piece is one of a kind. Three stages are required to create it:
- Hand-shaping, then a first firing at 980 °C
- Glazing, then a second firing at 1 280°C
- Setting of the image created using AI, and a third firing at 855 °C
