CRADLE is conceptualised not just as a decorative candle holder or a flower vase, but as an instrument to focus and embody physical phenomena such as light, shadow, liquid and flame.
In order to realise this concept, we have maximized the physical properties of the materials through a combination of geometric shapes and mathematical proportions.
The artwork is composed of two layer structure —quartz glass and stainless steel—.
Its arc shape based on mathematical ratios makes the artwork sway like a cradle.
The refraction of light by the fused quartz, with its high purity and transparency, produces complex spectral effects.
The mirror surface inside the stainless steel acts as a screen that reflects physical phenomena such as the caustics of light, the ripple of liquid and the flickering of flame, as well as the surrounding landscape.
CRADLE attempts to enhance our perceptions of the aesthetics of physical phenomena and laws lurking in the depth of our everyday lives.
