In the wake of the war in Ukraine, preserving the country's cultural heritage has emerged as a critical concern. The enemy seeks to obliterate Ukraine's history, art, and architecture, posing a threat to the nation's very identity.
In response to these hostilities, Maria Gavryliuk and Natalia Kamenska created a new collection called Atlases. Drawing inspiration from the architectural marvels of Kyiv, Ukraine's capital city, they incorporated these motifs into their designs. The enigmatic works of Ignatius Kazimirovich Ledokhovsky, particularly the Kozerovsky house on Kostelna Street adorned with Atlases, served as their primary muse.
'Atlas' head vase crafted from tempered glass showcases GUNIA Project's essence in reviving long-forgotten production methods across various domains. Throughout its journey, the brand has resurrected twelve distinct techniques, one shining example being the exquisite art of crafting guta glass. This particular technique draws its name from the renowned glassworks known as "Guta," where skilled artisans once meticulously fashioned glassware and decorative pieces dating back to the 16th century. Sadly, the tradition has gradually waned, and the number of functioning "Guta" furnaces in Ukraine has dwindled to a mere handful.
