Yu Yang was born in a city known for its northeastern China industrial operations. Following his tenth birthday, the utopian decline reached the urban region where he lived. He began painting training at eleven, and at seventeen, he entered a renowned design school in China to study interior art design. 2011, he moved to Italy and remained there until 2018 without additional relocations. During this time, Yu pursued knowledge by enrolling in academic programs at various universities and institutes, focusing on subjects such as philosophy, architecture, painting, and mixed media art. 2019, Yu moved to Portugal to pursue a doctorate in moving image art studies at the prestigious University of Lisbon. During this period, he produced no artistic works but dedicated himself entirely to preparing several scholarly publications. These papers can be understood as Yu's introspective investigation of his creative concepts. He also received the Outstanding Graduate Student Work Award from the Association of Moving Image Researchers (AIM) after his Ph.D. After experiencing theoretical success, Yu resumed his artistic practice in 2024. He has been invited by renowned art residency institutions and film producers to travel to Australia and Russia to create art.
