Yu Yang was born in a city noted for its industrial operations in China's northeastern area.Following Yu's tenth birthday, the utopian decline reached the urban region where he lived. As a result, throughout his work, there is a strong presence of high-level irony directed at various parts of the real world and the people that inhabit it. He moved to Italy in 2011 and remained there till 2018, with no additional moves. Yu pursued knowledge during this time by enrolling in academic programmes at various universities and institutes, focusing on topics such as philosophy, architecture, painting, and mixed media art. He moved to Portugal in 2019 to pursue a doctorate in video art studies at the prestigious University of Lisbon. He produced no artistic works during this time period, instead focusing completely on the preparation of several scholarly publications. These papers, in particular, might be understood as Yu's introspective investigation of his artistic concepts. As a result, in late 2023, he began a reflective video art experiment.
