Prior to the art academy, I graduated with a master in social sciences and worked as a management consultant. These interests are reflected in my artistic practice, which can be summarized as a fascination for the unpredictability and often cruelty of social relations and human behavior. My work is rooted in my experience and further elaborated during my research. Referring to the theory of gender and sexuality and to emancipatory movements, and translated into artistic expressions such as film, photography, sculpture, and installation. In my work, I seek to create disruptive situations, with the intention to break the viewer's passivity, and questioning the seemingly rational and logical, but often culturally defined beliefs and opinions. Most of my work tells a story about the effects of an open society with ubiquitous interactions since the internet is the dominant platform for (anonymous) human debate. Storytelling is often implicitly constructed as a means to challenge the dichotomy between ourselves and others. As a result, my stories often leave the viewer orphaned with a mix of conflicting feelings and thoughts.I studied visual arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, where I graduated in 2011. In 2015 the Mondriaan Fund - the official Dutch state fund - granted me the Stipendium for Emerging Artists.
