My name is
Maria Bibiana, I am a figurative artist with creative periods in Europe, USA
and Africa. Since childhood I love to draw, and so I took the opportunities
to develop my artistic skills. At present I live & work in Switzerland,
Zurich. I grew up in Cologne, Germany, where I received my best grades in art
at high school. I took further artistic training lessons from Renate Friedländer in
Cologne. However, I did not study art but medicine to first work as a medical doctor
and continued to draw & sketch. Since the year 2015, I
worked part-time and since 2021 as a
full-time artist. I am a member of the PSA, American Pastel Society. I prefer
the techniques of pastel art, pencil and digital art, occasionally acryl. My
artwork was selected for exhibition in numerous group exhibitions since the
year 2018 until present, as well as the solo exhibition of my illustrations of
the poems by Anna Greta Wide in Zurich. Furthermore my artwork was selected for
artsy online, and at the Tana Art space at the Venice Biennale 2022.
Of note, I do
not intend to compete with a camera in the sense of photographic detail, but to
capture essential characteristics: These can be ordinary details in nature and
environment, animals and people of course. Having served people suffering from
deadly diseases, I have a deep respect for human life in all stages of life. Being
an artist I have also deep appreciation for nature, we have to take great care
in environmental issues for our sake and for the sake of our future generations. So you can imagine, that my goal is to share
fullness of life, which is not at all
about bliss. It involves failing, ageing, suffering & dying. Transience is
an essential part of the fullness of life expressing our faith in God. Every
being has in it the longing for fulfilment. It’s in each of our hearts.
