Alessandro Vicario was born in Modena in 1968. He began photographing as a child thanks to the teachings of his father Ennio, a professional photographer. He grew up and trained in Milan, where he still resides. He is also the author of a number of audiovisual installations. He is represented by the gallery Lab1930. FOTOGRAFIA CONTEMPORANEA in Milano.
Since 2000 to the present, he has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in private galleries, public spaces and international art fairs in Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain and Japan. His works belong to private and public collections including: Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea, Cinisello Balsamo (Milan); Alinari 24 ORE, Florence; Museo Villa dei Cedri, Bellinzona (Canton Ticino); Municipality of Losone (Canton Ticino); Fondazione Mudima, Milan; Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo; Fondazione San Fedele, Milan; Centro de Fotografia Isla de Tenerife, Sta. Cruz de Tenerife; Museo Comunale D'arte Moderna e dell'Informazione, Senigallia.
In his works the topics of memory, nature and landscape are unfolded in relationship to the specific condition of photography, understood here as a trace of reality mediated by light. Born from a longing for knowledge, closeness and proximity, his images often look like finds rescued from destruction or oblivion, where the object, reproduced without artifice, becomes a presence rich in references. Due to his interest in problems related to territorial changes, he also participated in various photographic campaigns such as “Acquainvista” (“Water Ahoy”), carried out by the Municipality of Bari (2007), “La nuova struttura per la salute mentale a Trieste” (“The New Structure for Mental Health in Trieste”), promoted by the Aino University of Osaka, Japan (2006); “Un paesaggio ritrovato” (“A Landscape Found Again”), wanted by the Ministerial Committee for the Birth Centenary Celebrations of writer Lalla Romano (2006); “Il paesaggio tradito” (“The Betrayed Landscape”), promoted by the Galleria San Fedele in Milan (2006).
