Her multidisciplinary approach cuts across performance,
photography, sculpture and installation to reveal contemplative interactions
between the body and the natural word. Bianca Lee Vasquez’s auto-didact practice being very
much oriented on ritual, weaves webs between flora, corporeality and the
unconscious in promotion of establishing bonds with the land. Vasquez's approach correlates
the recovered experiences of these interventions in nature to her performative
installations or sculptures while mingling with various ecological, feminine,
unconscious and spiritual themes.
Driven by the power of the moment, of the striking yet
sincere - the photographic work of Bianca Lee Vasquez seeks to distil
experiences from personal life - truths realised whilst exploring and wandering
the outdoors with her children and friends. Used as a means to document these
interventions and performances in nature, Vasquez approaches photography auto-didactically, furthering the honesty and explorative quality in each
image. Her process is a series of casual interpretations linking harmony and
the divine with the body and other living species. Poised nudity with
unconscious sensual and spiritual undertones reverse the traditional role of
women in order to reclaim female agency. At once voyeur and participant, the
artist’s intimate world melts with the tangible, material and living -
capturing earthly settings with a primordial quality.
Her works were exhibited in many venues such as Palais
Tokyo in Paris, France ; Z42 Arte in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil ; Carré Latin
Festival in Jardins du Palais Royal, France ; Instituto Valenciano de Arte
Moderno in Spain ; or Musée National Eugène-Delacroix in Paris.
