Janet Elizabeth Thomas was born in Sydney, Australia.
She began painting in 1981 as an artistic partner of the sculptor Nicholas Georgouras.
At the age of 21, her portrait of Nicholas Georgouras was chosen for the first Salon
Des Refuses in 1984.
Thomas' travel to Greece, her studies in Ancient History and Philosophy, and her
study of the Greek language, both Ancient and Modern have informed her work.
After the death of Nicholas Georgouras, Thomas wanted to use the marble left
behind in his studio. So, using the same direct hand carving techniques she had
watched him using for 40 years, she began carving her own sculptures in 2021.
Her recent works in both painting and sculpture go back to the roots of human
artistic practice to conjure imagery lying deep in the imagination.
Thomas’s studio is in Sydney.
Janet Elizabeth Thomas is recorded in Max Germaine's 'Artists & Galleries of Australia Vol 2".
My art explores cosmology and mythical experience and its relationship to human subconscious.
