Andrea Poggipollini (Bologna 1963), art name APP, grows up between Bologna
and Austria, his mother's homeland.
During the fascist period his Bolognese grandfather has a well-known tailor’s
shop in the city. His other, Hungarian grandfather, who died of tuberculosis at the
age of 47 at the height of the war, was an art teacher, sculptor, painter and
photographer.
And so we see the inevitable creative blood. A lot of drawing from his childhood,
then art school, military service in the Paras and even escape to Milan to become
part graphic designer, part cartoonist, before finally set designer on a long tour
of tourist resorts.
He specializes in the working of various materials and, for many years, his
knowledge of stagecraft leads to him creating foam rubber puppets, planning
events and designing decor for refreshment and entertainment areas, as well as
stands in various fairs.
For over twenty years he has been working with Modena’s Panini Group (Marvel,
DC, Disney, Planet Manga) as a set designer, interior designer and sculptor for
fairs and events.
A meeting with the artist Adrian Tranquilli proved decisive, prompting him to go
further into sculpture.
He has always had a passion for photography and this becomes an art form that
finds its expression through the experimentation of personal exhibitions.
Seven years in the Reggio Emilia Fotografia Europea OFF area, open the way for
him in a creative crescendo that meets with tremendous public successes.
Over the past five years, APP has taken part in the stagings of Art City Bologna,
where he also stands out for his wise choice of concept and location. Not without
reason does he achieve a peak of 2,500 people in just two days in 2018
("Mytho-meToo"), followed by 2,000 people in 2019’s "DISCOTEQUE" and 2020’s
"ECO-ECHOES"; a format created to repeat itself, as it involves state high
schools and artists of various arts in subjects regarding common sensibility.
Collaboration with the cartoonist Giovanni Timpano (Marvel, DC) leads to him
exhibiting sculptures at Pontedera’s Piaggio Museum.
Even CheBanca! Premier banking (Mediobanca) wanted APP for exclusive
exhibitions at their prestigious locations in Rome and Naples. There was even a
collective exhibition in support of women and the environment at the Daphne
Museum in Sanremo, concomitant with the 2020 song festival.
During the pandemic, a tireless APP creates an original Decameron and, with
music, acting and visual arts involving other artists and a high school, produces
video episodes for the web with a decisive emotional impact.
All these are indications of the great interest that his art, always inspired by
profound humanist themes, provokes among present day events.
Other exhibition experiments complete and identify his sculpture, photography
and installation art.
The written word accompanies the work of APP, often rewarded in national
poetry and narrative competitions.
Even his reduced video production has always met with great success.
The themes narrated in his work are, and always will be, regarding the concerns
of contemporary life. There will be no presumption of imposing visions or truths;
the free interpretation of each one of us will be the starting point for the
continuation of Andrea Poggipollini's artistic life.
