LIVES AND WORKS
DATE OF BIRTH
Trained as a mathematician, she worked as a researcher in the telecommunications field until 1995, when she turned full time to photography.
She has lived in: Mexico (1979-1980), Algeria (1981-1983), USA (1984-1985), France (1990-1994), China (1994-1998), and Belgium (2008-2014).
From 2000 to 2010, she worked as ajournalist for specialist magazines and as lecturer at University of Roma3.
Her work has been shown in several exhibitions, both solo and group, in Italy, USA, China, Russia, Poland, Spain, Mozambique, France, Belgium, and Portugal.
In 2003, for FotoGrafia - International Photo Festival of Rome, she is the curator of three exhibitions: "Chinese Communities", showing works of Xing Danwen, Han Lei, Tie Ying, Zhang Dali and Gao Brothers; "Shi Ma?" by Bertrand Meunier; and "Made in China", by Rhodri Jones.
Her photographs are included in the collections of the National Gallery (Rome), the Multimedia Art Museum (Moscow), the MAXXI (Rome), the Documentation Centre Ricardo Rangel (Maputo), the Basso Foundation (Milan), and in private collections.
She published: "The Road to Coal" (Hopefulmonster, Turin 2004), "Ritrovi" (Maschietto, Florence2007), "The Other Kids" (UNICRI, Turin 2009), and "Time Lag" (Damiani, Bologna 2011).
She works on two different levels. On the one hand, traveling to crisis situations, she uses traditional analogue techniques to make classic reportages. On the other hand, building medium-format digital photographs, she dissects and reassembles her images to question the relationship between photography and reality, and to forge yet another, different kind of reality
