I am a South African self taught artist. I grew up in a township in KwaZulu Natal alongside my siblings, cousin, uncle, parents and grandmother. I believe my love for the arts was ignited at a community Christmas Party at the age of 5. For my Christmas present I was given a stack of papers, felt tip pens, crayons and pencils from "Santa Claus" I did not know it at the time but that day paved the way to me choosing to express myself in artistic manner. Constantly putting my wild child like imagination on paper has helped me retain and practice my ability to think creatively and outside the box.
It was after taking art as a subject in High School that I was introduced to art movements like: Cubism, Renaissance, Realism, Fauvism, Surrealism, Expressionism, Pop Art etc. Through these art movements I was then introduced to artists like: Mary Sibande, Irma Stern, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, Georgia O'keeffe, Gerard Sekoto and other famous talented artists.
I am inspired by the surrealism, cubism and modernism art movements. The works of Salvador Dali, Nkosi Ndlovu and Loyiso Mkhize have inspired certain works that I have done in the past. I enjoy exploring the form of black women and draw inspiration from Africanism. My focus is on using my art to invoke questions, inspire or even to bring some sort of healing to the viewer.
