Since 2011, painting has remained a medium that he doesn’t leave. Each project is introspection on blank page territory and for each painting we find the design of the next one. Constantly in research, he always question what he is doing and tries to look further to reach the top of it. Acrylic on blank paper, cellophane and folds! Variable dimensions, various questions!
His inspiration comes from his experience, from what he observes in everyday life, human contact is very important. The way they move within the society. Walking and cartographies, whether human or spatial, mental or experimental (from experiences), will give him a structure. Moreover artist like Pierre Soulage or Fabienne Verdier will inspire him, whether in gesture or involvement in pictorial space. Even Iris Van Herpen by the way, his last discovery in textile designs.
All begin on the paper, blank space, and habitable space. He establishes a bound between the existent territory, the memory, the history, and the human being. From there is created a range of cartography on black background to express memory with white ink to express what comes from our memory. Besides of that some yerars of practice and researchs later the opposite happens, he paints on white background, becoming field of possibilities, the water as perpetual territory of possibilities and infinity. While black ink is still a refuge for the memory.
The territory question the being. Besides, human being, landscape of experiences, passes through space and feels it. He is a territory which draws itself over his experience in this “surround”. A territory acquires a material, a texture, a thickness. Territories of superimposed writings, which are metamorphosed along the way the readings it give to reads, of patterns which are compiled by disappearing each time a new pattern appears, such as a palimpsest.
Since the revolution of 17th of October and the blast - all on Beyrouth - territories and more about roots has taken a deep place. The series for this year tries to go deep inside those territories, memories, political and social positions, reaffirming a belonging to a space that is far from him from us as it speaks for everyone.
He tries in his painting to offer a new territory of vision in space, a new space of debate on human relations. As simply as it is to talk about, as difficult it is to recognise it and apply.
Abdelrahman
completes his architectural studies at Victor Horta and ULB(BE) in 2013.
At university,
reflects in his work a concern about space, its memories and human being, his
movement and sensations. In parallel, he practices abstract painting which
nourishes his project and his vision of space.
With a master
thesis over space perception in architecture linked to body movement, he decides somehow after years
to continue by building staging project and nourish his painting.
Dancer in
his spare time, he is a swing dancer, and sometimes borders contemporary dance
or theatrical dance. In 2018-2019 he took courses in choreography creation at
Art-T school, where he will learn about theatrical dance and staging dancers.
He will also
develop his vision in space with dancers, the intension in gesture and moves.
He had the chance in 2018 to be followed for 5 days at theater festival in
Antwerpen, by 5 different professionals.
From 2016
till 2019 he collaborates with two actors for a staging project, based on slam
poetry piece. Everything was built from the scenography to the performance.
After some residencies, he found his style trough space and scenography. Being
able to enter into a character trough a prologue made of building scenography
to prepare them to the main performance. The space construction builds a mental
and emotional cartography. The prolog had the chance to be settled during the
Résonance Festival (BE) in May 2019, it was a 3 day consecutive performance.
With his
slam text, he’ll try to use different artistic medium. In 2019 he also formed a
crew and directed with them a short film in which a slam text has served as a
screenplay.
