After studying tailoring and draping techniques in Osaka, Milan, and Sicily, she began creating wearable art in 2024. Her approach treats fabric as a medium for sculpting—where garments are not dictated by function, but built from sensory engagement and emotional themes.
She constructs each piece without fixed patterns, working by hand through intuition and material dialogue. Using cotton, polyester, custom-designed textiles, braided cords, and copper plates, her works carry texture, weight, and traces of memory within their forms.
Her recent work “GIFT” is an armor-like creation made of copper plates and cords, honoring resilience and life’s quiet strength. In “Tra i Ricordi”, she crafted over 2,500 hand-cut cherry blossom petals from original Nishijin-woven fabric, evoking the fragile and collective nature of memory.
In 2024, she held her first wearable art pop-up exhibition in Los Angeles. She also continues collaborating with Kyoto-based textile artisans, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary expression.
Through wearable forms, AKI invites viewers and wearers to encounter the deeper layers of emotion and memory—offering space for reflection through the tactile presence of her work.
