For over 30
years, I have worked with different materials, including waste material from
manufacturing, metals, recycled plastics, acrylics, polycarbonate and
ready-made items to put together a varying collection of art. For instance, I
have made everything from installations and enormous space pieces to large and
small pieces for exhibitions. As of today, the chosen material no longer really
matters to me – as long as it supports the message of the piece.
In my art I
take advantage of light, shade, transparency, mass and the unique power of
individual materials. In some cases, the viewer can physically go inside the piece and thus experience the
art as strongly as possible. An example of such a piece is “The Selfie of
Narcissos”, presented in 2018 in the Mänttä Art Festival.
I have
taken part in numerous international art shows around the world. My works have
been presented in, for instance, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, the Barents
area, Japan, China, South-Korea and the USA. In 2003, I was honored to
receive the bronze award in the International Lace Biennale Contemporary
Art show in Brussels. Moreover, in 2010, I was given the honorary award in
Chengchou International Graft Biennale, China. In 2009, I curated and organized
a show of 18 artists in Beijing.
In my home
country, Finland, I have gotten the honor to present my art in, for example,
the Mänttä Art Festival 2018, the “Katajanainen kansa” exhibition of Mäntyharju
in 2016, the Snowball Effect Northern Finland Biennale of Oulu in 2012 and Kemi
in 2016. In addition, my art has been presented in the Design Museum in 1999
and 2009 as well as in the Amos Anderson Art Museum in 2006.
