Painter and photographer best known for his photographic essays on automotive culture in California, as syndicated internationally by Camera Press/ Katz Pictures. More recent bodies of photographic works include the series “Playing with Fire” where close up images of flame have been photoshop manipulated and mirrored six times creating Rorschach ink blot tests where what is seen is subject to the perception of the viewer. There is no fixed point of reference for an outside observer who might deconstruct the works according to their own psyche. Mazandi’s paintings examine the structure of space and dimensionality in direct contrast to the thinking behind the fire images and have at their core a fixed point of reference as an “axis mundi” where all buildings/dimensional objects converge to a zero point like connecting rods with direct interconnectedness to realms above and below.
