Silvia Matarazzo’s art is a technically consistent journey, even though it is conceptually changing and evolving. It is continuously fuelled by her breathtaking territory in which her inspiration becomes tangible matter, bordering on the sensory.
Silvia was born and raised on the shores of Lake Como, renowned for the production of silk. Her artistic education was almost unique in the world: as a matter of facts, she attended the historic silk factory Paolo Carcano, that since its foundation 150 years ago nurtured the best Lombard artistic talents by instilling the taste, the knowledge and the tactile and visual pleasure of the most qualitative raw materials. Solid technique was thus combined with a material instinct, creating an unexpected and vibrant synaesthesia.
Art creator by heart, her creative urge is never asleep and it is continuously fuelled by training and experimentation: this was the path chosen by Silvia, who since the beginning embraced the charm of abstraction rather than figurative art, inherently linked to borders and constrictions that limit her creative spirit. The artist never fears to annoy, to dare, to arouse the audience’s curiosity, to destroy in order to create again with new rules.
The colour is only apparently free, but it always involves the very same shades because they are the instinctive selection of the subconscious. The creative impetus explodes and summons the artist towards the canvas, the talent then takes over to give balance, beauty and organicity to the overall work of art. Art was always allowed to disturb, but in Silvia’s there is no compromise with the final beauty, involved to satisfy the eyesight as well.
