Based in the South coast town of Swanage, UK, Paul Longland is an artist who mainly works in oil, (but occasionally will turn his hand to use water colour and acrylic) He is inspired by the sea that surrounds the Purbeck area, loving the countryside, magnificent cliffs, the wildlife and coastline features that surround him.
He comes from a long line of sea faring family members. The sea is in his blood.
With its history of industry and maritime wildlife, the area where he currently lives is an infinite source of interest and inspiration.
He is particularly interested in capturing the feeling of space and atmosphere using natural light and reflections on water and effects caused by the changing weather conditions.
Education wise, he spent a short time at Central St Martins, London under the tutelage of Guy Noble, though he would say he is mainly self taught and maintains his artistic practice with regular attendance at the Candid Arts Foundation, Islington life drawing sessions.
He is a regular exhibitor of his work, with recent a recent solo shows at the Tavistock Wharf Gallery, Candid Art Exhibitions and pop up gallery,
Purbeck Art Weeks festival and most recently Roy’s Art Fair in Shoreditch, London.
Paul enjoys creating his paintings en plein air and in his studio at Sandy Hill Arts in Corfe Castle, UK
