LIVES AND WORKS
DATE OF BIRTH
Silvestro Lacertosa, born in 1992, graduated from the Artistic High School of Matera. Since the age of 16 he has believed in his independent project and tried to give a place to his ideas. After renovating a dismissed artisanal workshop in the heart of the Sassi of Matera, at the age of 18 he made his debut at the Mediateca Provinciale with "Deep Water Horizon", a sculpture of over three metres made of recycled material. Besides sculptures, he received various commissions to create the scenography for rural houses and short films shot in Italy and Morocco.
In 2014, he moved to Bari where he established his atelier. He considers art as "the best way to safeguard an endangered humanity" and focuses on installations made of papier-mâché and recycled material. Constantly looking for exchange, he participated in various workshops promoted by the Academy of Fine Arts of Bari and in group exhibitions. The "Mercurio", a sculpture of about two meters made of metal waste materials, was selected by the Municipality of Bisceglie and exhibited in the city port.
In recent years, he has been committed to promoting a personal form of street art: far from graffiti, he prefers to invade urban non-places (i.e. rubbish bins, abandoned factories, etc.) with his installations.
He does not live on art, but for art, finding in it his path to plenitude.IT
