Born in 1988 in Porto-Novo, gifted for drawing since his childhood, Marcel Kpoho is a self-taught painter and sculptor. Although his first exhibition dates back to 2012, it was in 2017 that he gave up teaching mathematics to truly commit to his artistic career.
Marcel Kpoho shapes used tyres into masks and sculptures that speak of human beings, in their darkest and most glorious aspects. His art fascinates and questions. His works sometimes provoke rejection, sometimes admiration, but rarely leave the viewer indifferent. In his increasingly political and committed themes, he is particularly interested in the environment, the suffering of women, sexism, corruption and racism. In painting, he has created his trademark, which is to draw with triangles. A technique that he develops and perfects day by day. Prolific and determined, he sees his work as a mission and creates relentlessly, hoping to bring those who view his art to question the future of the planet and the future challenges of humanity.
In recent years, he has participated in and organised numerous exhibitions in Benin and collaborated with galleries in France. He sells his works at auctions in Europe and is present in private collections in Africa and Europe. In 2021, he received the Francophonie prize from the Loire School in France.
In 2021, he exhibited at the International Sculpture Biennial of Ouagadougou (BISO OFF) in Burkina-Faso. In the spring of 2022, his works could be admired in Burkina Faso at Wékré Eclosion. Then from May to June 2022, he participated for the first time in the Dak'art Biennial in Senegal as a guest on the OFF event.
