Maks Kapalski. Abstract artist, painter and sculptor. He draws inspiration from geology, astronomy, physics, botany, music, philosophy, art and his own perception of life.
“I am inspired by the human body, as a finite form, and at the same time, the infinity emerging beyond it as an abstraction. I am constantly looking for a better understanding of who I am. My interest in space and time is an extension of this long and winding journey that begins with the Self and extends outward as far as my imagination allows. Astrophysicists speculate about what lies beyond the edge of the observable Universe - the Great Unknown. The endless possibilities of these speculations inspire and motivate me to create. For me, abstract art is a tool to experience this potential Infinity.”
His work includes large ceramic sculptures, often with applied elements of metal, wood or string. His main inspiration is the human body. He also experiments with panel painting, creating images in the vein of abstract expressionism and iconography.
A graduate of the Institute of Art of the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.
Laureate of the International AKT Competition 2008 and 2009 in the sculpture / installation category, curated by the Marquardt Gallery in Łódź.
