Julia Romano was born in Argentina, in 1978. In 1980 her family moved to Villa María, Córdoba the city where she spent her childhood and adolescence and whose landscapes would later appear in her profuse visual work. She has lived in Córdoba since 1997, where she moved to study for a Bachelor's Degree and Engraving Teacher Training at the School of Arts of the Córdoba National University. Since her beginnings in her artistic practice, she displays a hybrid range of references, techniques, and resources that include photography, video, drawing, installation, and collage, among others. In her work there is a constant tension between the analogical and the digital, the handcraft and the technology where the searches indicate a reflection on the gaze and the mismatches or crossovers between what is real and what is manipulated. Her main reference is the landscape and its representation in the history of art; In her ways of tying visual stories, she configures montages that update beauty in less ideal conditions than the classical notion. In her work, she reflects on the experiential aspect of nature in the territory and raises the possibility of creating our own landscape through personal stories. Her work receives numerous awards and she actively participates in individual and group exhibitions in Argentina and abroad, she is also part of private and public, national and international collections. Since 2021 she works with The Basu Foundation for the Arts, Kolkata, India. She lives with her family in La Calera, on the outskirts of the City of Córdoba, Argentina.
