JI WENYU and ZHU WEIBING start to corporate since 2003. Over the past few decades, we have been learning deeply of the profound effects and influences caused by every single act and policy employed by the national government upon its people on this land. In our creation, therefore, it proves impossible for us to get rid of the attention and concerns with the society, the reflections on people's attitude to life as well as their psychological changes during the vicissitude of living environment. Also we have observed the cult of the pursuit of money leading to the withering and even desolation of our inner world.
We use cloth as our primary material, in the hope of soothing the wounded spirits with its built-in warmness and tenderness as well as the comfort it offers. Meanwhile, cloth is also inherently stubborn, resisting constantly the artists' composition. When filled with cottons, for example, it still follows its own nature and poses as neither cube nor sphere, defying delicate articulation and accurate representation. However, it is a material never destitute of astonishments whose discovery requires artistic sensitivity from the creators. In other words, it is precisely from its defects that the characteristics of cloth emerge as an artistic language. What we are trying to do here is to reach the other side of the path of our exploration and to release the infinite possibilities along with all its "problems".
