Jeannine De Raeymaecker lives and works in Mechelen, Belgium.
After her training in part-time art education, needlework, weaving, drawing, she obtained her master's degree in fashion, textile and costume design at KASK in Ghent, Belgium.
The search for materials, texture effects and relief in the weaving becomes more important. Mixed techniques, burning of synthetic materials, treatments with sewing machine, dyeing, bleaching, appear more and more in her work. Weathering and erosion of materials play a fundamental role.
She does not limit herself to what is "mainstream", but thinks "out of the box" in search of original forms of expression. Everything fascinates her and fuels her work with an amazing variety. Her materials are fragmented and interwoven.
In 2003 she won the 6 th Prize with a creation of a hat in bicycle tires at the Musée de Chapeau in Chazelles sur Lyon, France. The following year, follows the 1 st Prize of the city Ninove, Belgium for textiles.
She becomes fascinated with paper-making after attending a workshop.
Using simple materials, which are within everyone's reach, she gets to work. She uses matter that is past of her life, paper from books of her childhood. Her technique is personal, one of the paper artists in Europe, expressing herself with her experience.
In 2008 she receives the 1 th Prize for culture from the French-speaking community in Belgium for large format tapestry (in paper).
Characteristic is that she does not confine herself to one tightly held path, but constantly wants to keep progressing in her development and dares to take paths to that end. She likes the connecting of paper and natural and synthetic materials.
She is selected in International Textile and Paper Competitions in France, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Uruguay, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Poland, Lithuanie, Bulgaria, China.
In 2016 she achieves an Honorable Mention in the Triennial of Tapestry in Lodz, Poland.
After an Award for Innovation in Sofia Paper Art Fest 2019, she had a solo exhibition at San Stefano Gallery in Sofia 2021.
A major solo exhibition of her works from the last 6 years is currently running at the Cultural Centre Mechelen, Belgium
