Born in Tokyo 1968, she has been living in Milan since 1999.
Ishii holds a degree in Design and Textile Work from Tama Art University in Tokyo. She loves contemporary art, photography and architecture, excluding the commercial aspects of design from her area of interest. After graduating, she works in a professional photographic studio as an assistant, but finding studio photography unsatisfactory, she decides to leave for a long trip in Europe and finally moves to Italy.
After moving to Italy, she is hired by a fashion house and occasionally works for a textile studio in Como. For several weeks a year she attends an azulejos (the Portuguese artisan tiles) production workshop in Portugal, gaining experience in the creation of artistic ceramics.
In 2006 she is fired by the fashion company. In difficult economic conditions, she discovers photo reportage and is fascinated by it. For almost 9 years, she works on reportages and documentaries concerning poverty and social distress using the alias name Kei Nagayoshi.
This experience upsets her deeply, causing her a nervous breakdown, from which she manages to get out by practicing, at the same time, a more personal photography and art, which helps her find a mental and emotional balance. In 2015 she returns to devote herself to artistic work.
