"Imperfection does not lie in truth, but in language". - Zen Motto
We all are living in cynical world.Polarization of wealth and social injustice turn decent young man into priapic egomaniac and extreme violence. Why is this happening? What are we missing? How can we communicate and understand each other to make better world? The images came from journeys I made, articles I read, and memorable incidents passed by me. Each moment, I’m searching for the essence of life, and realizing how language is so imperfect and it cause tremendous unwanted problems. This is why I decided to create the series of the work “Lost in Translation”.I tried to picture myself what would like to be in ‘Lost in Translation’ causing a serious communication gap between ‘YOU’ and ‘ME’. It eventually brings about lots of anger, antagonism, and after all, dehumanization. So many keywords are appeared in my mind, and suddenly, the two words have been arisen: RIOT VS FASHION We all know ‘Riot’ is a violent action to keep one’s justice, freedom, life and belief. On the other hand, ‘fashion’ often indicates one’s status, character and furthermore, expressed by kaleidoscopic human natures. Sometimes, they both are used as metaphorical paradoxes of life it can’t be explained by language. To mix together, my paintings express this moment of when we ‘lost in translation’, by using more of conventional way of technique with wild, blunt, but often use dissonant color, combining with violent background. The poses of the subject are radical and yet even a bit cagey. The faces are secretive, cast with their truth expressing beyond. This is how I understand my “LOST IN TRANSLATION” which is the exact moment the dehumanization begins.
