I
graduated with a BFA from the University of Alberta in 1998 and an MFA from the
University of Calgary in 2000. I have
received three Elizabeth Foundation Awards, several grants from the Alberta
Foundation for the Arts, BC Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, and
a President’s SSHRC from the University of Saskatchewan.
In
the last ten years, I produced over thirty large scale paintings, mounted
thirteen solo, three two-person, and several group exhibitions in Canada,
United States, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, the Czech Republic, India, and
China. I teach as an Associate Professor (Painting/Drawing), Department of Art
and Art History, University of Saskatchewan, Canada.
Between
2017 and 2019, I developed a painting series under the title of Passages, which consists of nine
large-scale (ranging from 48 x 86”) and six small-scale paintings. Passages is about the complex
intertwining between ancient myth, social integration, boundary and rite of
passage. Folk art busts of mythological
gods juxtaposed with abstraction, contemporary architecture, gardens, and
people, investigate other worldly presences and sustainability of ancient myth
in current times. Passages exhibited in two curated solo
exhibitions at the Tinos Cultural Foundation, June 13-July 7, 2019, and the
Vorres Museum, June 24-July 14, 2019.
