Sybille Friedel was born in Paris where, in her early years, she started learning drawing and watercolor at Del Debio's and at the Museum of Natural History. When she met the Korean master Ung No Lee, she truly engaged herself in learning the art of Chinese calligraphy which she would keep on practicing throughout the years. Following deep studies and worldwide long travels, Sybille Friedel menages to propose her own artistic vision, challenging the aesthetic codes of this oriental technique. At the crossroad between different mediums, she develops a deep reflection on Human beings and their strong yet fragile relationship with the environment. Whether she creates bronze sculptures, wooden furniture or she paints huge rice canvas, the calligraphic gesture runs through all her works.
