My name is Franziska Dörfel and I was born in Rostock in East Germany in 1982.
After graduating from high school and my training in wood sculpture in Thuringia, I began my teacher training studies for art & philosophy at the University of Greifswald. Since then I have been dealing intensively and continuously with painting.
During my studies of painting with Prof. At the Burg Giebichenstein University of Arts in Halle/Saale, my approach to the art of the old masters and the simultaneous interest in abstract and contemporary art awakened.
The fascination of exploring and overcoming the boundaries between abstraction and figurative painting has been unbroken since then.
On my many journeys I have been able to develop myself personally.
In my studio I have been working intensively on the development of my artistic expression since 2018.
Since 2019 I have been a member of the artists' group "Rosa Garage" and the Westwendischer Kunstverein with which I have participated in regional exhibitions in Lower Saxony.
In 2024 I decided to participate in international tenders and to pursue my artistic path more seriously, consistently and more visibly.
The starting point of my work is the informal painting in oil on canvas.
In the gesture application of color on the canvas I create a stage for my themes.
In its creation, the canvas is an open space that develops and changes through the process of feeling the existing abstract color spaces. My artistic research is about the superposition, compaction and transparency of color. Sometimes pastos or glazed she reinforces my picture themes, which I work out layer by layer.
My work deals with the duality of the human being and the deeper, often contradictory complexity of our existence. My painting is the visualization of inner worlds, they show different levels of inner spaces that move between consciousness and subconsciousness, trying to understand the core of man's actions with his emotions and entanglements. I notice again and again that the relationship with us and our environment is more intense than we think.
Picturesquely I refer to an old master approach. But deliberately break through it with contemporary elements and disturbing factors and thereby create tension. This tension is the focus of my work.
The high degree of encryption puts viewing habits to the test that stimulate thinking beyond.
