-BIOGRAPHY Eunmi Mimi Kim(b. South Korea, 1988) is a UK-based, Korean-born artist. She completed her undergraduate degree at Hanyang University, Korea, a BA Fine Arts, Multimedia & Interactive Design, received her MA Experimental Design at Royal College of Art, London UK. She is an emerging interdisciplinary artist, her work is quite eclectic yet eccentric from design to New Media Art Practice including digitally-mediated performance, installation, video and sound art in relation to the theme of sensory experience. The artist is mainly interested in the sensory perception and its corresponding communication, how we perceive the world around us through the senses based on therapeutic, meditative, neuro-scientific and cognitive-psychological research.
Her work has been internationally shown in exhibitions and relevant occasions, to highlight: at Design Museum, London which has been selected as World TOP 5 museum by Times magazine, at St. John Church, as a part of First Thursdays that is organised by Whitechapel Gallery. ‘Ways to Experience(2019)’ that was sponsored by a government organisation called Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK), London, she and one of the artists initiated to gather artists who have the common denominator, selected as a finalist for the annual open call, received production fee and the group exhibition.
Recently, her group exhibition got featured by London Live TV Channel also her own work got featured by Artjobs (Artist of the Month), Elephant (Image of the Day), Create!, Murze magazine and Aesthetica Magazine Art Prize 2020, 100 Contemporary Artist. She’s been a finalist including International Contest of Contemporary Art YICCA(2018), CICA New Media Art Conference (NMAC) (2019), Insatiable Mind SIAF (Salisbury International Arts Festival): WILTSHIRE CREATIVE (2019) and Prize Winner from THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON, 4482 Awards, and III Prize Winner of Sunny Art Prize (2019), received the artist fee, exhibitions and residency programme etc.
One of these, the elephant magazine referred to as: ‘Once, self-care was the new me-time, which was the new pampering, a trio of saccharine terms that can seem hopelessly out of date in a world that’s so strange and terrifying. Maybe the only sane antidote to an insane world is an even less sane one, like this work called , which seems to suggest we escape the world by simply cocooning ourselves up and popping ourselves in a bowl. Me Time(4.0) by Eunmi Mimi Kim is simultaneously compelling, eerie and comforting. She recently showed her work in a group show, The Other Side of The Moon, which presented artworks that merge the familiar with the alien —something this piece does very well indeed.’
