I started my career as a Photoreporter at the age of 14 focusing on “marginalization”.
At the age of 17 I left to Israel where I followed 2 wars.
After a serious injury I moved to Paris where I worked as assistant in the Vogue studios for the most acclaimed fashion photographers such as Guy Bourdin, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton ….
In 1981 I moved to New York where I had the possibility to work with Irving Penn and Hiro as well as experiencing the Andy Warhol Factory.
In 1982 I moved back to Paris and I began my own career as a Fashion and Advertising Photographer and Film Director between Paris-New York and London for Brands such Evian, Orangina, Paco Rabanne, Reebok …….as well as for Vogue.
In 1992 I opened my Branding and Creative Direction Agency that consulted internationally acclaimed Luxury Brands.
My personal work as a photographer has been exposed in NYC Galleries and at the International Center of Photography in Paris.
In 2002 I made a solo Exposition at the Stazione Leopolda of Florence showcasing 220 Portraits blow-ups shot during the Social Forum. The Exposition title was “Subversives”.
In 2004 I founded the Lost & Found RD Brand that has become a Cult Designer Collection worldwide.
In 2018 I closed the Brand and I retired in my Bio-Active farm and Resort in the National Park of Casentino where I decided to live in a self sufficient and sustainable way and where since then I dedicate my Life to produce Art.
My work is about: Memory-Therapy-Emotions.
I mostly produce Installations using organic elements of the nature that surround me, dried plants, dead animals or insects, bee wax…. hairs, bandages.... mixed with old polaroids and other synthetic materials.
I do not like to talk about my “Art” that in my opinion needs to move the inner side of the spectator without prior explanations.
My works do not have titles but only the date in which the first part of the works ends……since I consider my work a never ending process.
My work it is extremely tactile and also with very fragile components.
I never exposed my work as an Artist.
I have a private IG account: charl_es.love.
Many thanks for reading me.
