Escallon

Abstract artist born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. Escallón started her creative career as a designer and illustrator. It was years later when painting became her main language. In the year 2000 she moved to Houston in search of a better horizon.

During 2020 she participated with More than 20 of her original paintings (including Large-scale work) in the exhibit at the Art Museum TX , located in katy, a space dedicated to presenting the contemporary art of our region to the public. and encouraging a greater understanding of contemporary art through educational programs.
Her work is and was part of Latino Art Now! for both 2019 and 2020 billboard campaigns celebrating Houston Latino artists. Latino Art Now! is a national platform and partner of the Smithsonian Institution.

In 2019 she received the SACI (Support for Artist and Creative Individuals) grant from the HAA (Houston Arts Alliance), to create and exhibit large scale paintings from the collection “Taste and Contrast”. During the last years she has also received support from the IUPLR (Inter-University Program for Latino Research University of Houston Center for Mexican American Studies) Fresh Arts and Art Launch.

Escallón's paintings are acrylic on canvas/mixed media; she enjoys the large format and her works are a continuous exploration of color and composition bringing to the canvas the contrast of her own experiences.

Figurative Work
while giving a big importance to composition and color, in the figurative work Escallón uses the space to tell a story that relates to emotions and personal experiences, giving the work a biographical sense. She uses the figurative as a tool to play with the already known human rules of perspective and proportion suggesting an active lecture of the canvas.
