Singapore based visual artist and co-founder of tekad kolektif , MASURI graduated with
BA Fine Art (First Class Honours) from LASALLE College of the Arts accredited by
Goldsmiths, University of London.
He was awarded with the prestigious Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Scholarship
Award (2016) that merits his artistic talent and many contributions to society. He has
completed 300 hours of community work. He was also a recipient of the coveted
International TAKIFUJI Art Award by Japan Traffic Culture Association (2017). He then
received The Winston Oh Travelogue Research Award (2018) and he was accorded the
Anugerah Cemerlang by MENDAKI (2019) for emerging in the top percentile of his
cohort. He was the recipient of the NAC LASALLE Community Arts Mentorship
Programme (CAMP) (2019) to co-lead art workshops on a grassroots level as well as to
organise the exhibition, Of Spaces and Phases in conjunction with Singapore Art Week
2020.
MASURI debuted a sold-out solo presentation, SOFTSTRONG at Coda Culture,
Golden Mile Complex, SG (2019). He has also participated in several group exhibitions
like Where the Sidewalk Ends , Chan+Hori Contemporary, SG (2020), Affordable Art
Fair, SG (2019), THE NEW NOW II, VIVID & VEILED , Gajah Gallery, SG (2018); What the
stars are telling us , Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, SG (2018); International
TAKIFUJI Art , Meiji Kinenkan; JP (2018), +Project BETWEEN , Gallery Tomo, JP (2017)
and Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award Exhibition , National Gallery Singapore, SG.
He was featured in various newspapers, catalogues and online articles such as
Lifestyle, TODAYonline, Berita Minggu, Berita Harian, Year-In-Review, HYPE & STUFF
and Nenkansha New Art Newspaper.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Masuri’s studio practice has long oscillated between sculpture, as well as painting and
installation work. His core practice concerns the affect of ma teriality and the
transformative potential of everyday industrial materials into painting and/or sculptural
media. Th is interest is informed by blurring distinctions between art and decoration
through the expansive parameters of the non-representational to circumvent these
structured binaries.
His sculptural paintings and objects tap on industrial materials like silicon,
polyurethane and gypsum as a conduit towards larg er narratives of personal identity,
aesthetics and embodied memory.
