Fabienne Benveniste, the Pacifist Warrior or the Marriage of Contrasts Studied Fine Arts in Paris and Montreal. Lives and works in Paris.Visual and performance artist, her work is based around colour and gesture, far from the social niceties.“I paint on large canvases tacked to the walls. Pigments, inks, pastels, brushes become my spontaneous actors, my febrile guides, companions in battle within the frame” Her artistic commitment condenses a veritable marriage of contrasts; softness/violence, feminine/masculine, contemplation/action, coarse/refined, modesty/shamelessness.This is painting in action, that shifts from lyric abstraction to the semi-figurative, centered around bodies in movement, portraits, landscapes…These disparate conjunctions are also a guiding principle, that of a pacifist warrior, enacting the combat of all women through the ages, bringing together the roles traditionally attributed to man and woman.A quick artistic pantheon: Lascaux, Giotto, Degas, Turner, Toulouse-Lautrec, Joan Mitchell…Fabienne Benveniste is not an artist confined to her studio, she is clearly anchored in the society in which she lives and its overflow of sensations, life stories effervescing in her paintings.
Exhibitions in Paris, Montreal, Monaco, Barcelone, Venice.
