Nicola Barth, female painter, lives and works near Frankfurt am Main. She studied literature and switched from wiritng to painting 25 years ago
because „ language is unambiguous, is controlled by the mind and raises us to a conformal level. Painting, on the other hand, deviates from the norm. It leads from the depth into the depth of an experience of being, it is another, for me more open form of communication, which is grasped with other senses and leaves more scope and freedom. Here it is more about experiencing and not understanding.“, she sais.
In addition to transformation and permanently metamorphic processes, the focus of her work is the theme of language and space, accompanied by questions of identity, the alienation and defragmentation of the individual and its location in space and time.
Painting and drawing, mainly in graphite, acrylic and oil, are complemented by three-dimensional works and digitally manipulated photographs. The content follows the same principle and is as abstract and surreal as her paintings.
Her works have been on show in numerous curated individual and group exhibitions in Germany, Italy USA, Switzerland and 2021 at the London Art Biennale. She has been nominted for various art award an has received the Artfacts Performance Award for Strong Artfacts Rank Growth Trend in 2020.

Everything revolves around transformation
"Spaceman and octopus? ...because I am concerned with what lies behind the obvious: Uncharted expanses, in-between and transitional worlds, shape-shifting, transformation processes.... There is a simultaneous existence of things around us - there is something that appears and disappears again, is intangible and incomprehensible. To penetrate this presence and absence, to capture the state in between, that is my focus.“
Nicola Barth is dealing with permanent metamorphic processes in non-obvious areas.
Thoughts about spirit, matter, energy, time and space go hand in hand with questions about identity, the alienation and defragmentation of the individual and its location in space and time. Painting and drawing, mainly in acrylic and oil, are complemented by three-dimensional works, fotos and digital art.
She herselfs says about her work:
When everything is loose and in constant movement, everything reacts with everything else,
everything finds itself constantly in a process,
there is nothing really finished,
and when time and space are only fixed ideas,
then deception and change
are confusion and chance
It remains to stopp and make visible.
