I create work that blurs the distinction between photography and painting, surface and structure, representation and abstraction. The process of making is paramount—I’m interested in how imagery, line and texture give rise to meaning.
My process has been shaped by the artists, historical movements, and skills I have learned over the years. 1950s abstract expressionism in Canada and America were significant influences. I emulated and recreated works I admired by artists like Riopelle and Motherwell in my adolescence. Street art is an important influence especially from the late 90’s to 2000’s graffiti was something I actively created. This led to community murals with the city of Vaughan and Toronto later in my career.
My work experience includes teaching drawing and painting 2006-2010. I have owned and operated my own photography company and studio, Westend Studio 2009 to present. I have been exhibiting paintings in galleries 2006-present. The Westend Studio is a wedding and event photography company servicing clients in the GTA and abroad. It has allowed me to travel, develop my digital photography expertise and has provided the means for my art practice to flourish. Running parallel to the operations of the Westend Studio, is my professional relationship with Liss Gallery. My painted work has been represented by Liss since 2010. Together we have built a loyal collector base and following.
Art is, my identity, my chosen profession and the field I flourish in, I will forever be a creator, patron, and entrepreneur of the arts.
