ARTISTIC STATEMENT
Art is another way of seeing the world.
An essential way that expresses sensitivity, intelligence, humor and that must always be a means of self-expression and joy. alina(lalala)’s world looks like her: fun and spicy.
Continuously wondering about the world and laughing are essential for this artist, who does not hesitate to challenge and reinvent herself, to be in agreement with who she is and with the direction she wants to give to her artistic work. Various quotes, ironic questions, prompt the viewer to engage in a discussion about our society and our perception of it.
Poetry, quotations, but also music, myths, science and society feed the spirit and imagination of the artist. Alina’s artistic influences come as much from her personal life as from the masters of painting, whom she interprets freely.
Her work also incorporates the Japanese wabi-sabi esthetic concept, which emphasizes the beauty of imperfect, impermanent and incomplete things. It is the beauty of modest, humble and atypical items, an abstract idealization of beauty, which rejects standardization where everything is smooth and without relief and welcomes imperfections. Nothing is smooth, or without relief, everything is about imperfection; everything is imperfect.
Thanks to this use of medium, raw and direct - premeditated - the impalpable becomes palpable, expressing its vision of the world, without compromising its energy and message: this is its true impact.
Her work contains tons of sarcasm and a desire to provoke the viewer, to capture one’s attention in order to provide an emotion and to lead the viewer to wonder, reflect, or simply smile.
Alina works on several series that are as different as they are complementary. Throughout her reflections, duality comes back as a recurrent theme in her work, in different forms. This paradoxical interdependence is necessary to understand our world, to develop our consciousness, and to express our perceptions. And, such as a game, a secret, a story that adds to that of the work, the legend says her daughter come and put her name, “Lili”, on each of her paintings.
BIOGRAPHY
Alina Schiau - aka alina(lalala), her artist name - was born in Romania, Ceausescu’s Romania… her parents decided to flee the country, so that their daughter would grow up in a free country. Political refugees in Switzerland, Alina and her family moved from ldictatorship to freedom, freedom to express yourself without censorship, and freedom to become the person you want,
So, it is no surprise that growing up Alina chose an artistic career, navigating between her two passions: visual arts and comedy. She followed classes at the Conservatoire de Théâtre in Geneva, then joined the School of Applied Arts in Geneva, from where she graduated first of her class in 2003.
And yet, from encounters to chances of life, radio broadcast offers her the opportunity to start her professional career; she seized it.

She started painting again and by evolving in these different artistic worlds, Alina has developed a unique creativity that feeds on all her experiences.
