Afnan Abdullah is a graphic designer based in Kuwait. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design from the American University of Kuwait (AUK), and a Master of Arts in Design for Communication from the University of Westminster. Before starting her job as a full time designer, she was selected as an adjunct art instructor at AUK from December to January, 2016.
Growing up, she was enamored of portraits and Renaissance art. Copious artworks and photos were referenced in order to refine her skills mainly in charcoal and pastels. However, there was an ardent urge to start composing original artworks that stem from personal sources. Embarking on her endeavors, surrealism began to surface in her executions, and there was resonance. What is known to be dream-like became to her a channel that lead to a clearer reality and introspection. It now provides ways to visually marry polarized aspects of life; fire and water, the sun and the moon, light and darkness, yin and yang. Years later, she embraced digital painting on her iPad using Procreate, for it proved to carry splendor and pragmatism.
Her first solo art exhibition was carried out in the Kuwait Arts Association on the 15th November, 2021. A total of 41 artworks were showcased under the concept of "Introspection". It was considered to be first gallery in Kuwait that was focused on digital surreal art. She aims to further unearth her unknowns and to continue visually translating them with developed skills.
