MOURKA
Born in Paris in
1969 to a mother of Russian origin and a Polish father. Mourka graduated from
the Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux with honours; initially a graphic designer, she has
been a scenographer since 1996 and composes urban or landscape scenographies
mainly with light. Her creations are made for the exterior and are exhibited in
public spaces.
Her creations
are on the border between visual arts, performing arts, street arts and garden
arts.
Carnival of ideas in mind, she realized at 19 years
old her first urban event, a Mardi Gras in Bordeaux, then while exercising her
profession of graphic designer in Paris, she founded in 1993 "La Tribu"
which gathered artists and amateurs of joy of living around artistic and
convivial actions.
It was while disguising the lamp posts of a square in
Montmartre for an event that she had initiated that she had the idea of
creating an ephemeral light plan; she founded "Y A QU'À..." in 1996
and she realized this first event in the small streets of Bordeaux with poetic
installations and artists in luminous costumes using the first leds.
Over the years, light has become her main medium,
which has led her to illuminate Geneva, the Grand-Saconnex, Verbier... streets
and parks in Bordeaux, Lyon, Rennes, Tournai, Moscow, Washington DC...
Her approach consists of designing short-term or transitory projects in
the form of night-time showcases, performances or installations, showcasing
sites that emphasize the poetic, the beautiful, the unusual, the playful and
the ebb and flow of members of the public. It can be inspired by a theme, a
place, its history, or the ideas it evokes, and is often based on the
symbolism, rites and origins of human traditions.
She also takes photos related to light, shadows and nature, which she eventually retouches with watercolours. She is researching ancient techniques of painting on wood, her paintings are at the moment in an experimental state.
